# Face shape guidelines

Your **face shape** plays a huge role in how attractive you look. The right **hairstyle, beard, and even glasses** depend on it. If you pick the wrong style, you can make your face look worse — too round, too long, or unbalanced. *Note that **there are no bad face shapes** – only wrong style matchings.*

This lesson will help you **identify your face shape** and make sure you’re maximizing your look.

### **How to Find Your Face Shape**

📏 **What You Need:** A mirror, a soft measuring tape (or a ruler), and a photo of yourself facing forward.

**Measure These Key Areas**

* **Forehead width** – Measure across the widest part of your forehead.
* **Cheekbone width** – Measure from one cheekbone to the other.
* **Jawline width** – Measure from the tip of your chin to the edge of your jaw, then multiply by 2.
* **Face length** – Measure from your hairline to the bottom of your chin.

Compare these measurements and check which category fits best.

### **The 6 Main Face Shapes (and What Works for Each)**

#### O**val Face (Balanced, Slightly Longer Than Wide)**

<figure><img src="/files/NRghGvXls9qZesAzJOqf" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**Forehead is slightly wider than jawline. Jawline is rounded, not sharp.**

✅ **Best Hairstyles:** Most styles work. Medium-length hair with volume looks great.\
✅ **Best Beard Style:** Light stubble or short beard to add definition.\
✅ **Best Glasses:** Almost any style, but square or rectangular frames look best.

❌ **Avoid:** Long hair without layers — it can make your face look too long.

***

#### **Round Face (Soft, Equal Width and Length)**

<figure><img src="/files/hAUYjvEirf7W5RfR2MtC" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**Cheekbones are the widest part. Jawline is rounded with no sharp angles.**

✅ **Best Hairstyles:** Short sides with more height on top (fades, pompadours, quiffs).\
✅ **Best Beard Style:** A short, structured beard to make your jawline look sharper.\
✅ **Best Glasses:** Angular frames (rectangular or square) to balance softness.

❌ **Avoid:** Buzz cuts or overly short styles — they emphasize roundness.

***

#### **Square Face (Sharp, Equal Width and Length)**

<figure><img src="/files/17HihAKBsjqHP6iBAg8S" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**Jawline, forehead, and cheekbones are nearly the same width. Jaw is sharp and defined.**

✅ **Best Hairstyles:** Short to medium length. Classic styles like crew cuts, undercuts, and side parts look great.\
✅ **Best Beard Style:** Light stubble or a short, well-groomed beard. Avoid full beards — they can make your face look too boxy.\
✅ **Best Glasses:** Round or oval frames to soften your strong angles.

❌ **Avoid:** Extremely short buzz cuts — they can make your face look too harsh.

***

#### **Rectangle/Oblong Face (Longer Than It Is Wide)**

<figure><img src="/files/EQoPMdPSlOrGPj0b9gAv" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**Face length is much greater than cheekbone width. Jawline is more angular than an oval face.**

✅ **Best Hairstyles:** Medium-length styles with volume on the sides (layered cuts, messy styles).\
✅ **Best Beard Style:** A fuller beard to add width to your jawline.\
✅ **Best Glasses:** Wider frames to balance your face length.

❌ **Avoid:** High pompadours or slick-back styles — they make your face look even longer.

***

#### **Diamond Face (Narrow Forehead and Jaw, Wide Cheekbones)**

<figure><img src="/files/ve7uRwVpnsT4HCtvPCgt" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**Cheekbones are the widest part of the face. Jawline is sharp, and chin is slightly pointed.**

✅ **Best Hairstyles:** Textured styles with volume on top, medium to long hair works well.\
✅ **Best Beard Style:** A short, even beard to balance the jawline.\
✅ **Best Glasses:** Oval or rimless frames to soften sharp angles.

❌ **Avoid:** Buzz cuts — they make your cheekbones stand out too much.

***

#### **Triangle Face (Wide Forehead, Narrow Jaw)**

<figure><img src="/files/51YpXiBtU166OgCsArV0" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**Forehead is the widest part of the face. Jawline and chin are much narrower, creating a sharp, angular look.**

✅ **Best Hairstyles:** Medium-length styles with volume on the sides (side-swept, layered, or messy styles) to balance the forehead. Fringe or textured bangs can help soften the upper face.\
✅ **Best Beard Style:** A well-groomed, fuller beard or stubble to add width to the jawline.\
✅ **Best Glasses:** Bottom-heavy or rounded frames to visually widen the lower face.

❌ **Avoid:** Slicked-back or undercut styles with short sides — these make the forehead look even bigger and the jawline weaker.

***

#### **Heart Face (Wide Forehead, Narrow Jaw and Chin)**

<figure><img src="/files/TonmYnooGY0Dwg4T7As6" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**Forehead is the widest part of the face. Jawline and chin are noticeably narrower, sometimes pointed.**

✅ **Best Hairstyles:** Medium-length styles with volume on the sides (side-swept, textured, or layered cuts). A bit of length helps balance the narrow chin.\
✅ **Best Beard Style:** Light stubble or a short beard to add definition to the jawline.\
✅ **Best Glasses:** Bottom-heavy or oval frames to make the lower face appear fuller.

❌ **Avoid:** Short, tight haircuts or styles that add too much volume on top — they make the forehead look even wider.

Find your face shape and adjust your hairstyle, beard, and accessories accordingly. Take a straight-on photo of yourself and compare it to the examples above. If unsure, visit a good barber — they can recommend the best cut for your face shape.

Looking good starts with **knowing what works for you.** M**easure, compare, and make the right choices.**

*If you now see that your hairstyle or glasses don't match with your face shape, **fix your hairstyle and beard accordingly!** This may take time to grow hair, but it's worth it.*
