# Breathing techniques

Most people breathe wrong without even realizing it. **Mouth breathing ruins your face and weakens your jawline.** It makes your face look longer, softens your features, and even affects your posture.

If you want a sharper, more defined look, **you need to breathe through your nose — 24/7.**

### W**hy Nose Breathing is Important**

✔ **Improves facial structure** – keeps your jawline strong and midface well-developed.\
✔ **Prevents a weak chin and long face syndrome** – common in chronic mouth-breathers.\
✔ **Enhances oxygen intake** – leads to better focus and energy.\
✔ **Reduces puffiness** – filters and humidifies the air, improving skin and eye area.

### H**ow to Fix Your Breathing**

**1. Keep Your Mouth Shut**

Your lips should be **sealed** at all times unless you’re eating or talking. If your mouth is slightly open when you’re resting, **you need to fix it.**

**2. Breathe Through Your Nose Only**

* Keep your tongue in the correct posture (remember the [previous lesson](https://online-guides.gitbook.io/looksmaxxing-guide/face/proper-tongue-posture)).
* Breathe slowly and deeply through your nose.
* If your nose feels blocked, work on clearing it (more on that below).

**3. Tape Your Mouth at Night (Optional but Effective)**

A lot of people mouth-breathe while sleeping. **Mouth tape** helps train you to keep your lips sealed. Use medical tape (not regular tape) and place a small strip across your lips before bed.

**4. Fix a Blocked Nose**

If you struggle with nasal breathing:\
✔ Use a **saline spray** or rinse with a **neti pot** to clear mucus.\
✔ Try **breathing exercises** (like the Buteyko method described in the video below) to improve nasal airflow.\
✔ Stay hydrated — dry sinuses cause congestion.

### Mak**e This Automatic**

Check yourself throughout the day – If your mouth is open, close it. Breathe through your nose even during workouts. And finally fix sleep breathing – use tape if needed.

This is one of the easiest, **high-impact** changes you can make.
